Instructor recommends taking BSCC 1010 (General Biology) with a grade of "C" or higher prior to this course. This course teaches the fundamental principles of entomology. Topics will include major plant insect pests, major beneficial plant insects, plant and insect interactions, morphological characteristics, insect identification, life cycles, types of damage caused by insects, analysis of various control measures including cultural, biological, and chemical methods. Pesticides and the methods of application and precautions in handling will be discussed.
ENYC 2041 Practical Beekeeping

Instructor recommends taking BSCC 1010 (General Biology 1) with a grade of "C" or higher prior to this course. The course is designed to prepare the student to be able to establish colonies of European-derived honey bees, manage colony health, manage honey production, and enhance reproduction. The course organized as a combined lecture and laboratory exercises with hands-on interaction with living colonies.
