The goal of the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Nursing RN to BSN) program is to provide access to a baccalaureate degree that is both affordable and available within the local service area. Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Eastern Florida State College RN to BSN baccalaureate degree program's online coursework accommodates the varying needs of both traditional full-time students and working adults. The program is designed for RNs holding an Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing.
Curriculum and coursework build upon students' fundamental nursing knowledge and skills and allow them the opportunity to expand beyond the clinical aspect of nursing. The RN to BSN degree is a fully online program designed for current Registered Nurses who meet the admissions criteria and would like to continue their education to the Bachelor's level.
Students pursuing the BSN program must have at a minimum:
- An Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing (ASN) from a regionally accredited institution.
- Clear and unencumbered Florida Nursing license.
Course Requirements: Students will complete 120 credit hours of coursework including transferable Associate degree in Nursing courses as follows:
- 42 credit hours of transferred Associate degree coursework
- 45 credit hours of transferred General Education Requirements
- 29 credit hours of BSN Major Courses
- 5 credit hours of Elective coursework
Click on the Program of Study tab for course requirements.
General Education Requirement: Students are required to complete 36 hours of general education courses. BSN students should follow the general education requirements courses as listed in the program. These courses satisfy all five areas required by the State. As of the fall 2021-2022 catalog, all baccalaureate degree seeking students are required to complete one core course in Communication, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, and Social/Behavioral Science/Core-Civic Literacy to graduate. The Civic Literacy requirement also includes passing an assessment, to learn more about this visit this link.
Other courses: Students entering the program with an Applied Science degree may need to complete additional technical electives or general education courses. Technical electives are 1000 and 2000 level courses in a related area. Students entering the program with an A.S. degree may already have this requirement completed depending on the focus of their A.S. degree. Students will work with a bachelor’s advisor to determine the courses best suited to their plan of study.
