Library and Inform Studies (LIS)
This course provides an introduction to fundamental computer and information literacy skills. Topics include basic computer concepts, EFSC student computing resources, common user applications, security, electronic communication, using the Internet as an academic research tool, effective search strategies, locating and using various information types, critical evaluation of information, plagiarism, copyright issues, and familiarization with citing sources.
Students will gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in college-level research by identifying, evaluating, and using diverse information sources from the Internet and library databases. The course includes developing topics and thesis statements, creating search strategies, and critically evaluating and ethically citing sources. These research and critical thinking skills are crucial for success not only in college but also in the workplace.
